Visa Invitation Letter

Invitation Letter for Foreign Business Travelers

In many cases, foreign business people require a visa for a business visit to Germany. German embassies abroad grant these visas based on an invitation letter from the German business partners. In some cases, German embassies require the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) to certify this invitation letter. The CCI can only certify invitation letters if they contain the following information:

  • Subject: Visa Issuance.
  • Name of the company in the partner country, specifying that it is a business partner of the German company.
  • Name of the employee of the respective company for whom the visa is to be issued for a business trip to Germany.
  • Duration of the visit, including the dates of entry and departure. Signature of the managing director or owner.
  • Reference to Sections 66-68 of the Residence Act, stating that any arising costs, insurance, etc., will be covered by the German company, which supports the issuance of the visa but is not mandatory.
The CCI will not certify any additional information.

Visa applications for the secondment of German employees abroad.

When German companies second employees abroad, they must apply for a visa at the foreign embassies in Germany, if a visa requirement exists. Frequently, embassies require an attestation from the responsible CCI, certifying that the German employer guarantees to cover all travel expenses.
The CCI can only certify secondment letters if they contain the following information:

  • Letter on company letterhead (including exact company name and address).
  • Addressed to the embassy of the destination country in the Federal Republic of Germany.
  • Subject: Visa Issuance.
  • Name of the employee who will travel abroad (full name, date of birth, passport number).
  • Name of the business partner in the destination country. Purpose of travel (trade fair, assembly, business trip, etc.).
  • Duration of the visit, including the dates of entry and departure.
  • Assumption of costs by the German company.
  • Signature of the managing director or owner.
