East Frisia & Papenburg

East Frisia and Papenburg, with a total population of 500.000, is situated in the north-west of Germany. It encompasses an area of more than 3.100 square kilometres, including the world famous UNESCO world heritage site Wadden Sea. The local Chamber of Commerce and Industry is based in the heart of East Frisia, in the port city of Emden. Port Emden has a 1.200 year- long tradition and is the logistics hub of our region.

The development of the economic area of East Frisia and Papenburg - with its strong mix of tourism, wind power, seaports, shipyards and the automotive industry – was highly influenced by its proximity to the North Sea.

Tourism

In East Frisia, tourism has a long tradition. Since the 19th century, tourists from all across Germany have been visiting the beautiful East Frisian Islands and the Wadden Sea, which became an official UNESCO world heritage site in 2009.
