What should an job application include?

An job application in Germany should include following documents:

1. Cover letter

In a cover letter you present yourself to the company where you apply for a job. It should include information why you think you are suitable for the job and will be an asset to the company. Based on the job advertisement you give precise examples of your skills and experiences. Don´t forget your contact data and check for spelling mistakes. 

2. Curriculum vitae:

Usually the CV is in table form with the following information:
  • Personal information: name, contact data (address, telephone number and email), date and place of birth (include country) and country of citizenship
  • Work Experience in chronological order (with month/year) starting with the most recent work experience and with a short description of your main task
  • Education (vocational education or academic studies and school)
  • Further training
  • Additional skills (languages, IT knowledge)
  • Volunteer work (optional)
  • Hobbies (optional)
Picture: It is usual in Germany to include a picture of the applicant. The picture should be made by a professional photographer and show you as a professional.
