The logistics sector is one of Hamburg’s primary industries. A large number of companies use Hamburg and the metropolitan region for the trans-shipment, distribution and storage of goods. The efficiency and the importance of the local transport sector are also reflected in the large proportion of the region’s gross value added attributable to this sector.
In 2015 more than 280.000 employees worked in logistics in the Hamburg metropolitan region contributed to this sector’s success – and this number continues to rise. These employees are either directly employed in the logistics industry (approximately 60 per cent), are logistics service employees (approximately 10 per cent) or are indirect employees (approximately 30 per cent). With such a wide variety of jobs on offer, Hamburg is a great place in which to start a career in logistics.
Among others, the logistics sector encompasses companies in the areas of shipping, inland shipping, trans-shipment and storage, airfreight, road haulage, courier, express and parcel services, and rail freight.
