Application procedures for the granting of a residence permit for self-employment, or comparable dependent employment of foreigners from non-EU member countries in the field of export / import (foreign trade) in the municipality of Bremen


The following has been agreed with respect to the application for the granting of a residence permit for self-employment, or comparable dependent employment of foreigners from non-EU member countries in the field of export / import (foreign trade) in Bremen who are in possession of a short-term visa for Germany or those who have authorized a representative, residing in Germany, in writing (lawyer, business consultant etc.): The application ”Antrag auf Erteilung der Aufenthaltserlaubnis für eine selbst-ständige oder vergleichbare unselbstständige Erwerbstätigkeit mit Betriebs-sitz in Bremen oder Bremerhaven [application for the granting of a residence permit for self-employment, or comparable dependent employment in the municipality of Bremen], is to be submitted to the Bremen Chamber of Commerce in German, and in duplicate, signed personally together with a request for a statement and for the application to be passed on to the Stadt-amt [City Council Office] Bremen, Abteilung Ausländerangelegenheiten [Department for Matters Pertaining to Foreigners].
The application form can be obtained at the International Department of the Bremen Chamber of Commerce

The following documents are to be enclosed with the application:

  • A copy of applicant's valid passport
  • Personal curriculum vitae of the applicant
  • If applicable, a written power of attorney of the representative
  • Business plan (business aim)
  • Financing plan
  • Documentary proof of the capital equipment
  • Planned opening date.
After the personally meeting and the check of the documents, the Bremen Chamber of Commerce makes a written statement onthe economic advantages of the proposed commercial venture, and forwards this together with the required documents to the Stadtamt [City Council Office] Bremen, Abteilung Ausländerangelegenheiten [Department for Matters Pertaining to Foreigners].
After returning to his/her home country (country of birth, or country of permanent residence), the applicant is to contact the German consulate or diplomatic representative, and apply for a re-entry visa for the purpose of obtaining a residence permit.
After the granting of the visa, and re-entry into Germany, the applicant is to immediately register at the Bremen Einwohnermeldeamt [Office for Registration of Residents], and to make an appointment at the Stadtamt [City Council Office] Bremen, Abteilung Ausländerangelegenheiten [Department for Matters Pertaining to Foreigners] in order to get the residence permit.
